Medical Musicians Return to Taupō
Since 2014, a talented group of medical musicians has made its way to Taupō each year to perform in support of Lake Taupō Hospice. Their unique concerts have become a much-loved tradition, raising funds while filling the Great Lake Centre with beautiful music.
This year, the group returns over Labour Weekend – Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October – to share their passion with our community.
A Unique “Open Rehearsal” Experience
Unlike a traditional concert, the format is an open rehearsal. The public is invited to come along at any time, stay for as little or as long as they like, and enjoy the process of music being made. The musicians interact with the audience, creating a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere.
Rehearsal times:
Saturday 25th October: 10 am – 12 pm, and 2 pm – 4 pm
Sunday 26th October: 10 am – 12 pm
On Sunday at 1 pm, the musicians will perform a full “play through” of their rehearsed work – an informal concert that brings the weekend together.
Meet the Musicians
The ensemble is made up of five doctors, all members of the New Zealand Doctors Orchestra:
Piano – Dr Louise Webster
Violin – Dr Allister Bush
Viola – Dr Anthony Doyle
Cello – Dr Peter Fleischl
Double Bass – Dr Tim Wilkinson
This year, the group will be rehearsing and performing Schubert’s Piano Quintet, “The Trout”, a lively and much-loved piece of chamber music.
Supporting Hospice
Entry is by gold coin donation (with PAYWA available), and all proceeds go directly to Lake Taupō Hospice. Over the years, these events have raised valuable funds, and we are grateful for the support of both the musicians and the Taupō District Council.
We warmly invite you to join us at the Great Lake Centre this Labour Weekend for a special musical experience that blends community, collaboration, and classical music.
