Kōwhai of Care
Kōwhai of Care
This Hospice Awareness Week, and as Lake Taupō Hospice marks 40 years of caring for our community, we’re partnering with Greening Taupō on something really special.
Together, we’re launching Kōwhai of Care — a community planting initiative along the beautiful lakeside of Lake Taupō. Our goal is to plant 500 kōwhai trees, honouring those who have been in our care while giving back to the environment we all share.
This project is less about creating a place, and more about bringing people together — connecting our community, supporting our natural surroundings, and acknowledging the lives that have touched ours through hospice care.
For a $15 donation, you can help plant a kōwhai. You also have the option to include a short message for a loved one, which will be planted alongside a kōwhai as part of this collective legacy.
These donations helps us and Greening Taupō cover the costs of planting and future care of these plants and creating something meaningful that reflects the care, connection, and compassion of our community.
Planting Day
Join us for our Planting Day on Saturday 17 May from 11am, as we come together to bring Kōwhai of Care to life along the lakefront.
Whether you’re getting involved in honour of someone special, or just want to lend a hand and be part of something positive for Taupō, we’d love to have you there. We’ll have a sausage sizzle and hot drinks provided, so come along and bring the whānau.
