Bridging the end-of-life care gap
Hospice plays a vital role in our healthcare system providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families during one of life’s most challenging moments. Despite the invaluable services Hospice offers, the funding disparities within regions, hinder our ability to deliver the best possible care to those we serve. This also mean we are not able to ensure that everyone in the Lake Taupo community, has equal access to that care.
End of life care includes:-
Specialist clinical palliative care and pain management.
Personal care services. Supporting patients to be able to stay at home during their end-of-life days.
Clinical equipment support. Providing specific equipment to assist patients care at home, e.g., beds, chairs, walkers, and bathroom apparatus.
Spiritual and emotional support. Providing support to help the patient and their families cope.
Education. Providing public awareness about hospice services.
All these services require training and development of staff and funding to so.
Our community plays a pivotal role in supporting our organisation through sponsorship, donations and support of our events and retail outlets (Hospice Shops). Community support can only stretch so far. Steps towards obtaining fairer funding for Hospices is underway. Our community voice needs to be heard.
A call to action!
Please advocate for Hospices and Lake Taupo Hospice by making your voice heard with your MP. In the Lake Taupo District this is Louise Upston her email address is louise.upston@parliament.govt.nz.
This is not just a matter of financial sustainability but a fundamental issue of compassionate healthcare and ensuring our community receives the highest level of end of life care and support, regardless of their circumstances.
