As part of National Volunteer Week #NVW2017 we are profiling some of our wonderful volunteers and the work that they do.

Today – meet Terry (Volunteering 1 year)

After having retired early, Terry was keen to be involved in a cause that he felt he could contribute to and where he could be a useful part of the Taupo community. Joining Lake Taupo Hospice just over a year ago he has been surprised how open and appreciative staff and patients are towards volunteers – which plays handsomely into his cheeky sense of humour.  Known as the ‘Ginger Ninja” he mainly works directly with patients and their families and especially loves his role as a volunteer in the activity day programmes, where patients and family members come to Hospice House to take part in a range of pursuits, have a meal and catch up in a relaxed social setting.  “I wish other people knew what an upbeat, happy and fun place Hospice House is for everyone.  Patients, staff and other volunteers are fantastic – so inspirational”.  And Terry says to anyone who is thinking of volunteering “just do it!  It is so rewarding”.

Terry volunteers in the activity day programmes, is a volunteer equipment delivery team member, a patient home visitor, patient driver and helps out with general jobs around Hospice House.
