Fundamentals of Palliative Care Programme

Ngā Tūāpapa o te Pairuri 2022

Fundamentals of Palliative Care is a series of learning packages designed for any health care worker – registered and non-registered staff – who are caring for people with palliative care needs.

Following a recent review, work commenced to make the Fundamentals programme available to a wider audience. Hospice New Zealand and Lake Taupō Hospice are excited to offer a new blended online learning Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme, for participants to enrol in.

The programme is delivered via a blended model of learning, consisting of five online modules which include reflection exercises and three workshops.

Watch an overview of the online programme

Watch this short (2 min) introductory video to help set you up before you get started. It includes what is covered in the programme, how to sign up, what you need to do to complete the programme and where to go for support. Please note that the online registrations are approved between Mondays-Thursdays.

You can also download this information flyer about the online programme.

You need to complete each online learning and workshop component to complete the full programme. For example, in order to complete “The Palliative Care Approach” workshop you will need to first complete “The Palliative Care Approach: Communication, ethics and spirituality” online module.  You are unable to book yourself into the workshop until you have completed the corresponding online module.

You are required to complete the “Essence” module before you can complete any of the other topics. You may complete these topics in any order, however, each workshop complements the completion of the corresponding online component. You are only able to enrol in these workshops if you have completed the online components.

Once you have completed each topic, you will be eligible to receive a certificate to recognise your achievement.

If it is your intention to complete the whole of the Fundamentals of Palliative Care Programme by September 2022, we recommend that you do the modules in order listed above.

The Lake Taupō Hospice Education Facilitator is available to support you through your online components and the overall completion of the Fundamentals of Palliative Care Programme. Please feel free to contact Joce on 07 377 4252 or
