Organise an Event
Whether you are part of a corporate group, or belong to a service group or club of some kind, you may wish to consider organizing an event which raises funds for Hospice. Past Hospice fundraising events have included street stalls, sporting events, vintage car displays, dance performances and golf tournaments but the opportunities are virtually endless. We do ask that you let us know what you are planning to do and when, so we can ensure it does not clash with any other event we are organizing. We can also often help your event by providing banners, collection buckets, secure cash boxes and even volunteers sometimes.
A special talent or interest?
We are always looking for talented people to help out with our Tuesday Club entertainment or our Art and Craft group.
Our Tuesday Club hosts our patients for a morning of entertainment/creativity followed by a lunch. The entertainment is very varied and has included a magic performance, a travel experience talk, singing/ dancing, and showing the group how to create something special.
Our Art and Craft group encourages creativity and the group have enjoyed card making, sketching, painting, fabric art and pottery – to name but a few.
If you or the club you belong to think they could assist us with either of these groups we would love to hear from you.
Garage Sale
Every Wednesday 9am – midday Lake Taupo Hospice holds a garage sale behind Hospice House at 9B Pururi St. This is entirely "staffed" by volunteers and we do not have any shop leases to pay so every dollar raised goes directly to caring for patients at Lake Taupo Hospice. We welcome donated goods of any description and if you would like us to collect goods just give us a call (we do have a covered trailer for big articles such as furniture). You can also support Hospice by coming along to the garage sales and purchasing – there are some great buys for your own home but if that is full perhaps the holiday home or the university flat!!
Examples of articles available in the garage sales are curtains, kitchen ware, collectables, toys, clothing, furniture, garden tools, sporting equipment and books.
Recipe Books
A volunteer at Lake Taupo Hospice has created a unique set of recipe books as a fundraising campaign. Each book is printed and bound by a local company and the wonderful recipes are accompanied by delightful prose based on the story "Wind in the Willows". These books are sold for only $10.00 each and make lovely gifts – some of our members have a supply to take as a dinner gift rather than a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates. That way they feel they can give twice – once to Hospice and once to their host!! The books are available from Hospice at 7 Sunset St and from selected retailers in Taupo.
Give your Time
Lake Taupo Hospice has a large group of volunteers who assist with caring for our patients (see patient services) or fundraising. Some of our volunteers such as massage therapists and hairdressers need to hold qualifications in their own field but most volunteers simply require a desire to be of assistance to other people. Hospice provides an in house training programme for our volunteers with specific training in some areas.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Manager of Volunteer Services and have a chat about what positions we are currently looking to fill.
Become a "Friend"
"Friends of Lake Taupo Hospice" was set up by a group of people wanting to support Lake Taupo Hospice. It now has a membership of over 400 (annual membership $5.00 per person) and these members receive newsletters and information about Lake Taupo Hospice and are sometimes asked to help with specific projects. Joining the Friends is another great way of supporting Lake Taupo Hospice. The Friends Committee of 8 people meet regularly with the goal of creating and promoting a fundraising programme for the Hospice and assisting other community groups who may wish to fundraise for us.
Our Wish List
Often we are looking for a special item or items for our Hospice House or for a special activity. These are listed on the News/Events page and we would be very grateful if you could assist.
