About

Lake Taupo Hospice is a registered charity run by the Lake Taupo Hospice Trust and supported by

The Friends of Lake Taupo Hospice.

Hospice House on 7 Sunset St: Taupo is the administration base for the Hospice with the Care Coordinators, The Administration Manager and the Manager of Volunteer Services working out of this address. The House is also home to our day care programme (The Tuesday Club), our art and craft group, our Kowhai Bereavement group and various activities such as massage therapy and relaxation classes.

Hospice is a specialist palliative care unit - The term palliative care means alleviating without curing.

Lake Taupo Hospice is a community based Hospice, meaning our focus is on caring for people in their homes. Patients do not stay overnight at Hospice House but if circumstances mean that it is no longer appropriate for a patient to be cared for at home there are beds available in local Rest Homes where the patient will still be under the care of Hospice.

Patients are usually referred to Hospice from their GPs or Hospital doctors but they (or their family/friends) are welcome to contact us directly and our care coordinators would then contact the GP on their behalf.

We provide support for patients, their families, and those who care for them; through practical advice and physical, emotional and spiritual support; with the emphasis on pain relief and symptom management.

We are very grateful for the generous help we receive from our caring community. We could not offer our services free of charge without the support of individuals, grants and funding bodies and the business community. We have no costs associated with our fundraising so 100% of funds raised go to assisting our patients.

We care for families and friends both before
and after a death
irrespective of their social status, financial circumstances,
age, gender or religious beliefs.
